About

Teer Strategy is an advisory firm for (geo-)political risk analysis and strategy development founded by me, Joris Teer.

My goal: Making your organization future-proof in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment. I focus on the 21st century’s major agents of change: China (中国), the West (西方世界) and the Middle East (中东).

consultant

1. Curious what I can do to help your organization navigate change and formulate new strategies? I complement my knowledge of (geo-)politics by fostering a business rationale and expanding quantitative skills. I spent the second half of 2019 solving business cases under the guidance of Bain and BCG consultants. Furthermore, I am trained in scenario building. Click here→ to explore what I can do for you.

Speaker

2. Looking for a keynote speaker or discussion moderator for events on China’s growing role in Europe, its relationship with the United States or its policy objectives in the Middle East? I am an experienced public speaker: I appeared on BNR Nieuwsradio, addressed the Closing Ceremony of the Netherlands-Asia Honours Summer School 2019 and spoke at Are We Europe’s magazine launch event. In addition, I am the China-Middle East Analyst of the China Business Lunch collective, a group of prominent Dutch China experts. Click here→ for an overview of my appearances.

Writer & researcher

3. Or looking for written commentary and analysis of current affairs underpinned by strong historical knowledge? My publications appeared before in four Dutch national newspapers: de Volkskrant, Het Nederlands Dagblad, Het Financieele Dagblad (‘the Dutch Financial Times’) and De Groene Amsterdammer and in these English-language publications: The London Globalist, Are We Europe, The Clingendael Spectator and the Asian Journal of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. Click here→ for an overview of my publications.

I attended Joris’ China 2019 Year Review lecture on Xi Jinping and Chinese soft power in Brussels, which I thought was brilliant. He takes the audience on a well-structured journey, as he grants you a deep understanding of the Chinese Communist Party’s interests and strategies it pursues to leave its mark on 21st century geopolitics.
— Nicholas Barrett, Business and Economics Researcher at BBC || Formerly Editorial Assistant at The Economist

Joris appeared twice on the BNR China Podcast - the first time speaking on China’s relationship with The Middle East and later reviewing Xi Jinping and China’s 2019. His arguments are substantive and he explains them well, which renders him well-suited for radio.
— John-Boy Vossen, Producer & Editor at BNR

Joris completed high quality research on Sustainable Finance for our predominantly Chinese institute, balanced interests of stakeholders, and updated the institute’s director and his colleagues regularly on his project’s findings in Chinese. He thrives in challenging cultural settings.
— Mathias Lund Larsen, Director of International Cooperation at International Institute of Green Finance (IIGF) || Visiting Scholar at Stanford University

Joris and I published an op-ed together and shared the stage during a lively debate, after delivering keynotes. On both occasions, I found that he is an extremely clear thinker and a great communicator. Joris always connects the dots.
— Ardi Bouwers, Director of China Circle and Sinologist

When we co-wrote an article for de Volkskrant and cooperated on the China Business Lunch program, I found that Joris is a true expert on China-Middle East relations with a talent for strategic thinking. He persuasively presents his insights in speech and writing.

As a youth-led magazine, it’s unique to find experienced young writers like Joris. Both his article and subsequent workshop on China’s rise were a big success for our magazine.

As an alumni, Joris spoke on our 2019 closing ceremony. With his rhetorical skills and enthusiasm he inspired NAHSS partners and participants. Joris embodies the program’s vision: building bridges between the Netherlands and China. For that we are ever grateful.

To many, modern China is shrouded in mystery. Joris, however, invites everybody to explore ‘The Middle Kingdom’ with him. He leaves no stone unturned and you’ll find a good dose of humor along the way.

When we interviewed Joris about Wuhan, he proved himself a great China analyst. His knowledge of the country’s history, economy and political situation is extensive. Joris leaves a very professional impression and is a pleasure to work with.
